Kapawi Ecolodge 4 days Itinerary
- Day 1 50-minute flight from Shell to the Achuar community of Kusutkau, then 30 motor canoe to the arrive at Kapawi ecolodge. On arrival an introductory talk and time to check-in, followed by lunch. In the afternoon a forest walk to learn about the rainforest ecosystem, followed by free time to swim, kayak or relax. Over dinner you’ll meet your Achuar hosts.
- Day 2 Before sunrise there is an optional Wayusa tea ceremony, an important traditional aspect of Achuar culture. There is also time for an an early boat ride to watch birds and wildlife before breakfast. A morning forest trek to learn about plants that are used by the Achuar in construction, food, medicine and tools. Afternoon river kayaking to spot wildlife, with luck pink dolphins. Optional night walk to look for nocturnal insects, reptiles & amphibians.
- Day 3 Early boat ride to visit a parrot claylick (saladero), and observe up to 4-6 different species of parrot, parakeet and macaw. Visit to nearby Achuar communities to learn more about their culture and way of life. Enjoy the evening sunset from the Pastaza River, and the warmth of a communal bonfire back at the lodge. Optional night boat ride to enjoy the sounds of the forest, and look for caiman and capybara.
- Day 4 The usual early activity options are offered to make the most fo your last morning at Kapawi. After breakfast we head upriver to take the return flight to Shell around 10.30am, landing at Shell 50 minutes later.
